Chickpeas a day keep the doctor away

If Popeye had to make a comeback, he'd give up spinach and opt for chickpea tins. They are so full of health benefits that it's a wonder why we don't all use them in food all the time. Do I use dried chickpeas? No. My life is to hectic for that. I use chickpeas that come in tins or jars. And I think they are amazing. I don't have to soak anything overnight, I don't have to plan ahead. I don't have to cook them. I can just ... use them.


Chickpeas in a tin are not dried. They were originally dried, but by the time they reach us in a tin, they’ve been soaked and cooked, so they’re soft and ready to eat. Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the tin

  2. Drain in a sieve

  3. Rinse under cold water to remove excess salt or brine

  4. Shake vigorously

  5. Eat (or roast or sautee or or blend or throw in salads or soups)
